Search Huntington County Court Dockets

Careful court-code checks keep a Huntington County search from ending at the wrong office. Start with the statewide public case system for Huntington County, Indiana to read the running case history of filings, settings, orders, and outcomes, then confirm key facts through the county clerk in Huntington or the court that holds the case. Criminal, civil, probate, small claims, traffic, and other public matters follow the same route. Some records stay courthouse-only. Restricted material never appears in an ordinary online search, and a Huntington County court docket search that checks the court code first stays on track.

Huntington County MyCase Search Fields

MyCase splits its tools into Case, Name, and Attorney tabs. The Case tab takes a case number, citation number, or cross-reference. The Name tab handles personal names and business names. A birth date helps with narrowing. For the Attorney tab, use counsel's name or bar number. Searching is free and anonymous. A CAPTCHA may pop up, and results cap at 1,000.

Inside a Huntington County Court Docket

Indiana names the docket history a Chronological Case Summary, or CCS. It lists every event in date order. An entry may show that a complaint, motion, appearance, notice, or order was filed. But it is not always a link to the paper itself. What you can open depends on case type. Many civil documents sit online. In felony and misdemeanor cases, public access is often limited to sentencing orders. Other non-confidential material can still be viewed in person at the courthouse.

Case numberCounty, court, classification, year, and sequence information.
Caption and rolesThe public title and each party's case role.
CCS entriesDated filings, appearances, service, motions, and orders.
SettingsHearing date, time, place, court, and type when public.
StatusOpen or closed, which does not state the outcome alone.
DispositionThe recorded judgment, dismissal, sentence, or other result.

Read a Huntington County docket with care. A charge is not a conviction. A filed motion is not a granted motion, and a closed case does not tell you who won.

Huntington County CCS Terms

Short terms can flip the meaning of a Huntington County docket result, so read each event in context.

A scheduled court event with a date, place, and purpose.
Continuance
A postponement. Confirm the replacement date.
Disposition
The way a case or charge ends.

The official Odyssey overview explains the system behind the CCS, though its internal functions do not make every field public.

Courts That Keep Dockets in Huntington County

Two state trial courts of record serve Huntington County. Circuit and Superior share one county clerk yet carry distinct codes and assigned work. Circuit handles probate, juvenile, mental-health, and designated felony matters. Superior takes small claims, protective orders, most traffic and ordinance cases, Level 6 felonies, misdemeanors, and designated criminal matters. Under the local designation rule, a civil filing may land in either court.

Huntington County Legacy Court Codes

Two older identifiers can surface in a docket search. The official Odyssey list marks Huntington County Court, 35E01, as abolished. Huntington/Roanoke Town Court, 35I01, is on the same list. The current Circuit and Superior courts entered Odyssey in 2010. Judicial history records Roanoke Town Court's abolition at the end of 2012. A legacy selector may help you find an old record. It does not prove the old court takes new cases.

Roanoke traffic records deserve extra care. The county deferral form still shows a Roanoke Town Court choice. That stale label clashes with the current court structure. Check the court and case number MyCase or ePay returns. Then confirm the right office in Room 201.

Legacy result: retain the archived code in the search, then ask the Huntington County Clerk where the file is held.

How to Find Court Dates and Settings

A docket entry for a future setting can carry the date and time. It can also list the purpose, court, and location. Huntington County posts no standalone daily calendar online. When an entry is missing or fuzzy, call the Clerk, the Circuit office, or the Superior office. Administrative Rule 9 does allow public daily-calendar fields, though what you can reach from home is narrower than what you can read at the courthouse.

Recheck the CCS close to the hearing date. A continuance or reset can bump an earlier setting without fanfare. County government meeting calendars will not help; they are not court calendars. Each confirmation route is laid out in the fuller Huntington County court dates resource.

For that court's official phone and contact details, the Superior Court page on the county site lists them directly.

Huntington County Courthouse Access

You will find the Huntington County Courthouse at 201 N Jefferson Street, Huntington, Indiana 46750. The Clerk's counter sits in Room 201. Circuit is in Room 301. Superior is in Room 302. The Clerk lists weekday hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., though the court offices publish lunch closures and Superior opens at 8:30 a.m. The official courthouse facility record confirms the address.

Public Access to Court Dockets

Indiana court records are presumptively open. But public access and online access are different things. The Indiana Rules on Access to Court Records control case and document access. The Indiana Access to Public Records Act, IC 5-14-3, governs public agency records. It also backs the county request process. Still, it cannot override a seal, a confidentiality rule, or a court order.

Key rules:

Access Rule 1 states the public-access purpose and privacy balance.

Access Rule 5 identifies excluded records and protected data.

Access Rule 9 gives a formal route for certain excluded-record requests.

Indiana APRA governs suitable public-agency requests.

Juvenile, adoption, mental-health, sealed, expunged, and other protected material may be absent from any docket search. A blank result proves little. Ask the clerk whether the record is in-person only, not digitized, redacted, confidential, or held elsewhere.

MyCase Versus Huntington Clerk Inspection

MyCase is the fast route. It identifies the court, case number, type, status, events, settings, and any document links. The courthouse reaches what the screen cannot: the maintained file, older material, current financial details, certified copies, and records never posted online.

Docket Records at the Clerk's Office

Shelley M. Septer serves as Huntington County Clerk for both trial courts. Room 201 holds the official records. Come here for the CCS, case files, judgments, criminal and traffic records, small claims, probate material, copies, and current balances. Judges run the proceedings and issue orders; the Clerk keeps the court file itself. When you visit, bring the case number, the court code, the entry you want, and your preferred format. Ask about copy fees in person, since no price is published online. The official Clerk page lists the current local contact.

Huntington County Record Request Routes

A court-file request and a county public-record request are not the same thing. For a CCS entry, filing, order, judgment, or certified copy, go through MyCase. The Clerk works too. When the county holds an administrative record instead, use the county APRA web form. The form asks for a description and an Inspect or Buy choice. Its 24-hour language covers notice about whether a record is disclosable, not quick production. APRA cannot unseal a court file. An excluded court record may need Access Rule 9. It may also need a judicial order. The form displays the local request fields on the county site.

Huntington County Filing Layers

Huntington County records live in layers with separate jobs. The Indiana E-Filing System takes filings in. Odyssey keeps the CCS running behind the scenes. MyCase is the public-facing layer, while the Clerk's file remains the official local record. That file can hold accessible material MyCase never displays.

The Indiana e-filing program handles submission, not public searching. Three events that feel like one are actually distinct: a filing being accepted, electronic service, and public display. A new filing may lag before it shows as a CCS event, and an event can sit in the docket with no public document attached. Anyone filing without a lawyer should follow the current instructions or ask the clerk about conventional filing. An e-filing login is not a back door into a broader court records search.

The county's official Probation page lists its Adult, Juvenile, Drug Court, and Electronic Home Detention divisions.

These programs can create entries in an underlying case. That does not make supervision files public just because the office is listed. For any public CCS entry, the underlying case number is still the right starting point. Program notes, drug-screen results, monitoring data, and other supervision records can stay excluded. The related criminal case may still be visible. Contact Probation only about its proper program role. Never use it as a way around the clerk or the court-record access rules.

Huntington County Court Dockets by City

The official 2020 Census table lists five incorporated places: Huntington, Roanoke, Warren, Markle, and Andrews. None has a current city or town court listed by the state. Current matters generally route to Huntington Circuit or Superior. It depends on case type. Town halls keep municipal records, not the county trial-court CCS.

The Huntington City Building is separate from the courthouse. Roanoke carries an abolished legacy code. Andrews has a town records route, while officially documented water litigation entered Huntington Superior. Each town calls for its own civic-versus-court routing.

Circuit and Superior Court files are kept at the Huntington County Courthouse, 201 N Jefferson St. The Clerk's public counter is Room 201 on the ground level, while Circuit Court (Room 301) and Superior Court (Room 302) sit on the third floor, and Probation is in Room 209. This is the county's own courthouse, separate from the City of Huntington's City Building at 300 Cherry St.

Circuit Court closes for lunch from noon to 1:00 p.m. and Superior Court from noon to 1:00 p.m. after an 8:30 a.m. opening, so a third-floor visit should avoid the midday window even though the Room 201 counter runs straight through to 4:30. The courthouse facility record does not publish parking, security, or accessibility details, so calling ahead is the safer plan.
